Proofreading and Editing 

Proofreading can play a major role in improving the quality of the thesis or document especially for those whose first language is not English. Proofreading is defined as correction of mistakes in the usage of grammar, spelling, punctuation, construction of sentences and formatting. Proofreaders also indicate the absence of clarity to authors and suggest changes.

What we do: 

• Corrections of grammatical mistakes, spelling mistakes, and wrong usage of English words. 

• Ensuring proper usage of tenses in sentences - most thesis or articles are written in past tense. 

• Checking for proper usage and placement of punctuation.

• Assessing the structure formation of sentences - complex words and long sentences make reading of the document cumbersome. 

• Ensuring the document is readable and clear.

In addition to the above, technical editing is also done to ensure the document adheres to the appropriate guidelines, this includes: 

• Inserting an automated tables of contents.

• Inserting list of figures and tables.

• Inserting page numbers.

• Checking that table and figure captions are correct.

• Checking that headings are consistent and numbered correctly.
